Explore Law Awareness Weeks @ CDC's rich history

Launch of the first LAW@CDC in July 2015
Our Beginnings
LAW@CDC traces its roots to September 2014, when the Community Development Councils (CDCs) and the Law Society of Singapore signed a Memorandum of Understanding to launch the Community Legal Pro Bono Services Network. With demand for free legal advice rising sharply, the two parties expanded their collaboration to introduce accessible legal talks for residents.
The Launch
LAW@CDC was officially launched on 22 July 2015, bringing together 40 volunteer lawyers and 150 law students from NUS and SMU to deliver 30 talks across all five districts — reaching some 3,000 residents on topics ranging from Family Law and Consumer Protection to Employment Law and End of Life issues. Hosted at Community Centres/Clubs (CCs) and Residents’ Committee (RC) Centres, the talks are tailored for those without legal training, breaking down complex jargon into plain, everyday language.
Renewed Commitment
On 28 September 2020, Minister Edwin Tong announced the renewal of two Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) – one MOU between the Community Development Councils (CDCs) and Pro Bono SG (previously called Law Society Pro Bono Services) on Community Legal Pro Bono Services Network (Community Legal Clinics); and one MOU between CDCs, PBSG, three Institutes of Higher Learning (National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University and Singapore University of Social Sciences) and one new partner Singapore Counsel Association (SCCA) on Law Awareness Weeks@CDC.
